承上篇下午到太宰府一遊後,便繼續出發前往柳川市探索誇人的鰻魚飯。柳川距福岡與太宰府又是一段長路程,地圖上看基本就是福岡往熊本的一半距離了。加上不是熊本特急列車,來回時間就要3-4小時,所以同一天到太宰府會比較省時間,無論如何,為了鰻魚飯,管不了那麼多了!市如其名,柳川市非常「靜態」,由川河穿市而過的市鎮,當日逗留約3小時,感覺是人不多、車不多,而舟呢,是有很多,但都停泊在岸邊了。

◢Following the visit to Dazaifu in the afternoon in the last blog, I continued the journey to Yanagawa for the mouthwatering Ungai no Seiro Mushi (Eel Steamed in a Basket). Yanagawa is a long distance from Fukuoka, covered almost half of the journey to Kumamoto. It takes 3-4 hours to travel to and fro Yanagawa as the train is not the express one. Nonetheless, it is a most to go there for the steamed eel. Yanagawa is a "static" city with rivers crossing by. From my experience there seemed lack of residents, vehicles and moving boats.

到達一刻時間尚早,就到不在行程規劃中的三柱神社參觀。神社範圍就像個神聖的森林,廣闊而莊嚴,當日人流稀少,略感冷清,呼吸一會清新空氣就離開了。後來才知道原來再往深處走有更多特別的建築,春秋二祭更有大型節慶,真是有眼不識泰山!

◢Arriving early, I went to Mihashirajinja which was not in my plan nearby my route. The area was like a divine forest, spacious and majestic. With lack of scenery and people, I left soon after breathing some fresh air within the forest. At a very late stage I realized it is an important place for local residents, and there are more landmarks inside the area with special festival celebration events during spring and autumn.

日本鰻魚飯正宗好吃不用多講,但到選擇時還真是令人頭痛,單是柳川就有不少有名的鰻魚飯店,如若松屋、本吉屋、文藝茶屋六騎等等。我也忘記當初是如何作出選擇,大概是最近車站的先選吧!本吉屋歷史多久就不多談了,日本的事物都歷史悠久,文化深厚,最重要還是要一嚐頂級鰻魚!

◢Despite everybody knows Japanese eel rice is authentic and delicious, it is a real headache when you need to decide which restaurant you should go for. Talking about Yanagawa, there are famous eel restaurants like Okinohatamachi, Ganso Motoyoshiya, Restaurant & Folk Crafts “Rokkyu”, etc.. My lazy decision might be based on the location only.

從店外就能享受陣陣鰻魚香氣,店內裝潢也是古典美的格調,窗外還有優美的庭園景色。到達時約6時許,尚有數桌客人。先看具特色的餐牌,沒圖沒英文!年少無知的我以為全都是蒸籠上的,就點了蒲燒定食,彷彿蒸前還會蒲燒一下。(是這樣弄沒錯,但不是這名字,明明有蒸字的不選!)
◢From outside you can already smell the pleasant spiciness. The restaurant is designed with classic setting, old-fashioned aura, and there is a well-maintained garden beside. It was not surprising that a classic menu was without food image and English, but it troubled me much. Eventually I ordered a different dish (Lightly grilled eel) from what I expected. (How ignorant I was!)

記得點有「蒸」字的 有「特」字就是多一層鰻魚
最後還是到了上桌時才發現,不過沒關係,跟常吃的燒鰻魚比拼一下也可以。味道還真是不錯,只是鰻魚跟白飯這單調的組合總感覺缺了甚麼。吃完定食,考慮了一會,心想這地方偏遠,說不定一生沒時間再來,就下決心再點蒸籠!(我一定是瘋了)
◢"Nevermind, I can still compare the difference between ordinary and traditional grilled eel." I told myself that moment. It tasted good but with only eel and rice it looked boring. After finishing the dish, I made a crucial decision based on "once-at-a-lifetime" judgement -- ordered another steamed eel!

千呼萬喚始出來,期待已久的蒸籠鰻魚飯終於來到面前了!配上蛋絲跟吸收鰻魚汁的飯果然生色不少,可是蒸後的鰻魚沒純粹蒲燒的好吃(個人口味問題),而飯當然是好吃百倍。兩種吃法讓我肚子很撐,給不了中肯評價,不負責評價是這價格可以吃更好的,如果是3,000円倒是值得,有機會回到柳川我會去嘗若松屋或文藝茶屋六騎吧。
◢That was what I truly expected! The bright yellow ribbons of egg and the rice absorbing the eel sauce was extraordinarily attractive and delicious. Since I was very full during the second dish, I could not write a pertinent comment about the taste. I would say it is worth trying with a price of 3,000 Yen. With 4,000 pricing there should be a better choice.
