◢Chinese University of Hong Kong - Siege of the CUHK Exhibition/Be the Light/Paper&Coffee

◢"Siege of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)" was a 2019 conflict between Hong Kong protesters and Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF), widespread outrage from the death of Chow Tsz Lok and a series of escalated violence. On 11 November 2019 morning, protesters disrupted traffic to facilitate a general strike and HKPF responded by shooting pepper and rubber bullets at students/protesters without warning. The conflict ended by Nov 15, which was followed by "Siege of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University".
◢Despite a full year after the conflict, the thorn is still deep inside the heart of Hongkongers and CUHK students and alumni. I had a day off back to CUHK, 6 years after my graduation. Since the conflict, there have been security checking stations in every entrance to CUHK. Outsiders must register before entering the university.
◢The exhibition is situated at the Cultural Square. There are around 10 exhibition boards showing the timeline of the conflict and sharings from arrested students. Those heartbreaking photos are deeply branded in my mind.
◢I have never been to CW Chu College before, but the canteen there was indeed a big relief to the students during the conflict. Opposite to the College, there's a "yellow" restaurant called "Be the Light". The feeling of spaciousness inside the restaurant is extraordinary.
◢The restaurant mainly serves Taiwanese cuisine with various signature snacks, sets and drinks. I ordered the set with braised pork. Eating with French window under sunshine melted my heart. I stayed for an extra hour reading books to refresh my mind.

◢After the reading I went to No.2 Bridge on impulse to check this warzone. It took around 10 minutes to get to the Bridge through Campus Circuit North. There was nothing left around the Bridge area but only the new Fence on its sides. Nonetheless, what's happened in this place would never be forgotten regardless of the "hidden/twisted truth".
◢Stepping ahead, I entered Philip Haddon-Cave Sports Field, which was shot by over a thousand cans of tear gas in the conflict. But for now, everything return to "normal".

◢Paper & Coffee is a new coffee shop for me in CUHK. The cozy environment served me a peaceful afternoon tea.
◢Before leaving CUHK, I went for a glance on Chung Chi College Student Canteen, a "requisitioned" dinning place for protesters during the Siege.

About Me

Welcome! I am Sing, a recent graduate in Hong Kong. I love travelling a lot and would like to share with you information which you can hardly find/consolidate on web. These years I travelled to Taiwan, Japan, Korea and Thailand, mostly by myself. I planned every trip and found it an enjoyable experience to get involved throughout the travel. I hope you will find my blog a good reference to your trip! In Chinese, "Sing" means "Star", so star is one of the decorations in this blog. Kindly note that English version is a only brief summary from the Chinese version. It depends on the traffic and comments to launch the full English version and provide HK tourism information.
